BIOGRAPHY
Cynthia is a London-based mixed media artist whose work explores the relationship between emotion, movement, and the natural world. Using textured mixed media techniques with oil and gold elements, she creates layered compositions rich in symbolism and depth.
Influenced by the expressive movements and storytelling of Bharatanatyam — a classical Indian dance form she has trained in since the age of six — her work draws on gesture, rhythm, and stillness to evoke transformation, intuition, and inner freedom. Her paintings often combine monochrome portraiture, elemental themes, and captivating animal forms to create immersive visual narratives.
Whilst her background is in dentistry, having worked professionally as a dental hygienist and therapist for 15 years, her connection to art emerged unexpectedly after attending a spontaneous art class in 2025. What started as curiosity quickly evolved into a profound creative calling, leading her to pursue formal art studies later that year and dedicate herself fully to developing her artistic practice. Her transition into art marked a deeper commitment to creativity, self-expression, and creating meaningful emotional connections through visual storytelling.
Her work invites viewers to reflect inwardly, reconnect with themselves, and discover pieces that resonate as extensions of their own emotions and experiences.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Movement plays a central role within my practice, deeply influenced by my background as a Bharatanatyam dancer. My work explores the balance between motion and stillness — the tension between strength and softness, grounding and freedom. In my series inspired by the five elements, dance becomes a language for expressing the unseen connection between the body, emotion, and the natural world.
My work often features monochrome portraits of women surrounded by colour, representing transformation, becoming, and emotional awakening. I am also drawn to animals with captivating, watchful eyes, using them as symbols of intuition, instinct, and spiritual connection. I aim to create work that feels alive and immersive.
I aim to create moments of stillness amidst the chaos of everyday life, allowing viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with themselves — moments where time feels as if it no longer exists, creating space for deeper connection and recognition of what lies beneath the surface. Ultimately, I hope each piece resonates personally, offering a sense of calm in the midst of the storm and becoming a mirror viewers can see themselves within.
